“This is the future liberals want? LOL! Sign me up.
A disgusted right-winger tweeted a photo captioned, “This is the future that liberals want.” But the tweet blew up in their face as Twitter mocked it mercilessly and had a hilarious field day with it.
For starters, “the future that liberals want” really doesn’t look so scary. In fact, it looks like a typical subway ride in New York City. A passenger snapped a photo of a bundled-up Muslim woman in a niqāb glancing at the dazzling drag queen beside her, and posted it to the popular SubwayCreatures Instagram account.
The Daily Beast reports an “alt-right” troll got hold of the photo and shared it on the “politically incorrect” (/pol/) message board for his friends to laugh at. One of them then tweeted it with the ominous caption, “This is the future that liberals want.”

At first, some people found the tweet puzzling. As one Twjtter user notes, “the future that liberals want” isn’t the future, it’s happening now. In cities across the U.S. and around the world Muslims and drag queens go about their daily business without getting harassed most of the time. Just, apparently, not beneath the rocks these troglodytes crawled under.
It says something that a conservative looks at picture and thinks, "This is the future liberals want." That's not the future; that's now.

Some even thought, as far as visions for the future go, just having people dressing as they prefer and using public transit is setting the bar way too low.

And — unlike with Republicans — at least public transit and other government services work when liberals are running the show.
"This is the future liberals want" people peacefully sharing space without issue (and apparently affording luxuries)? Uh…yes?

Another mentioned that they hope the photo was taken with the Muslim woman’s and the drag queen’s consent.

Then things started getting downright silly.
Twitter hilariously mocks the “future that liberals want” tweet.

The folks at Mediaite managed to track track down the drag queen shown in the “future that liberals want” photo. She goes by the name Gilda Wabbit and says she’s thrilled with the positive feedback, and is trying to ignore the more negative stuff.
“The positive comments have been thrilling though! I’m reminded that the country was utterly divided during this election and there is so much hope for the future still left in our country.”
Gilda Wabbit adds:
“I won’t speak for all liberals, but I’d like to see a future where it isn’t a big deal for a woman in full modesty garb to sit next to a drag queen in NYC. It’s become a bit of a sensation, but her and I were just existing. The freedom to simply be yourself in a sea of people who aren’t like you is a freedom we all deserve.”
The Daily Beast notes Gilda Wabbit is Sam Themer’s stage name. He was on his way to a drag queen gig and had no idea he’d soon be “Internet famous.” Luckily for him, he looked fabulous that day.
